As an AmeriCorps Disaster Preparedness service member here in El Paso, I have been positioned at the Office of Emergency Management, The El Paso Fire Department Public Education participating in outreach and now am serving at the American Red Cross in the City of the Sun.
Throughout the last eight months I have had the pleasure to meet and serve thousands of people, first responders, Fire Chiefs, Fire Department personnel, community leaders, Girl Scout Leaders, Head Start and Region 19 providers, business leaders, students in grade k-12, Boys and Girls Clubs participants, Lions Club members, Lighthouse for the Blind participants, elder populations, daycare providers, block captains for the Neighborhood Watch programs, AARP and Volare providers and participants.
The list goes on!!

The Disaster Preparedness Project under the guidance of AmeriCorps, the United Way and One Star Foundation, El Paso has been very well received by the community. Addition of disaster preparedness multimedia information and guidance for our disabled, pets, service animals, the hearing and visually impaired, and alternate language populations; through the Lighthouse for the Blind Radio Station, various veterinarian and animal feed stores, private schools and with the cooperation of numerous community organizations, I can state that disaster preparedness is a worthy cause and effort, an opportunity that all community members share in the responsibility and ownership of our personal and group preparedness.
Through multimedia awareness, community enthusiasm and participation has yielded, specific population idiosyncracies and nuances which have been addressed and continue to segue via community participation, input and feedback!!

Proud to be AmeriCorps in El Paso Texas, GETTING THINGS DONE!!!
